Take part in our survey on access to trauma-informed mental health care for migrant and displaced women
In the context of the RESILIA project, La Strada International invites organisations across Europe to participate in a survey on access to trauma-informed mental health care for migrant and displaced women in vulnerable contexts, including victims of human trafficking, violence, exploitation, and displacement.
In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health problems affected around 84 million people in the EU (1 in 6 people), and these figures have only worsened since then. Women are more likely than men to experience common mental health disorders, and people in vulnerable situations, including migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, are at significantly higher risk.
Migrant and displaced women, including those with lived experience of human trafficking, violence, exploitation, and forced displacement, face disproportionate mental health challenges, compounded by a complex web of structural barriers: language obstacles, legal uncertainty, discrimination, socio-economic marginalisation, and severely restricted access to services including healthcare, housing, childcare, and economic support.
Their experiences often give rise to needs that differ from those of the host population, making culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and gender-sensitive care essential. In an increasingly restrictive legal and socio-political context surrounding migration, these barriers are becoming even more pronounced, further limiting access to trauma-informed mental health care.
Who should respond
The survey is open to organisations working directly or indirectly with migrant and displaced women, including civil society organisations, survivor-led initiatives, service providers, grassroots organisations, public authorities, academic actors, and other stakeholders involved in mental health, migration, asylum, anti-trafficking, gender-based violence, outreach, referral, or social support.
We are particularly interested in responses that reflect what is happening at national and local level in different countries across Europe.
How the findings will be used
The results will feed into the RESILIA project’s research activities and help inform advocacy, the development of practical tools and resources, and policy recommendations at both national and EU level. The findings will contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen trauma-informed and accessible mental health systems for migrant and displaced women in vulnerable contexts across Europe.
All responses will be treated anonymously. In any use of the results, we will refer only to the country reported on, not to individual respondents or organisations.
