Side Event on Access to Justice and Support Services

On 14 October LSI, together with Victim Support Asia (VSA) and Victim Support Europe (VSE) will host a side event on access to justice and support services for cross-border trafficking victims. The event will take place in Vienna, Austria and will be moderated by Dr. Anna Alvazzi Del Frate, a criminologist with decades of experience in international studies on crime, violence, and gender. It will address the challenges faced by victims of transnational trafficking within organised crime networks and will emphasise their need for safe justice and robust support systems.

The event will feature presentations on Desi practices that support victims during criminal justice processes, providing key insights from leading papers. These contributions will guide discussions on jurisdictional challenges, victim support, protection, and compensation. Central to the event will be a victim-centered approach that focuses on the mandates of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) related to victim protection and assistance. The discussions will cover critical areas including victim privacy, safety, and participation in criminal proceedings. In addition, the event will explore preventive measures and legal frameworks designed to uphold victims’ rights and enhance multi-stakeholder cooperation.

The ultimate goal of this gathering is to strengthen international collaboration and improve the support systems available to cross-border trafficking victims. This is an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the conversation and help shape policies that protect and support the most vulnerable.
