Civil society urges faster progress on EU Forced Labour Regulation

Trade unions and NGOs, including La Strada International expressed are concerned about the slow pace of development of the EU Forced Labour Regulation (FLR). In a joint letter to the Spanish Secretary of State for the European Union, the signatories stressed the importance that, during the Spanish Presidency, the EU Council opens avenues for concrete discussions amongst Member States with the goal of agreeing on a General Approach that would centre the regulation around remediation of forced labour. The CSOs outlined the weaknesses in the current FLR proposed by the European Commission. They also listed some concrete steps that the Spanish presidency can take so that the trialogues can be completed before the end of the current EU legislative term in June 2024.
