Civil society urges EU Council progress on Forced Labour Ban

new Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: Forced Labour and Forced Marriage

European and international civil society organisations and trade unions urged the EU Council to speed up the adoption of a General Approach on the proposed EU Forced Labour Regulation.

In October, the EU Parliament adopted its position for the negotiations with the Council and Parliament. The CSOs are urging the Council to make progress now, before the end of the terms of the current Parliament and Commission in June.

This letter, signed by 18 organisations, including LSI, outlines four core elements that must be included:

  • An evidentiary regime adapted to forced labour.
  • Provisions on state-imposed forced labour.
  • One-stop shop EU-wide complaints mechanism.
  • Remediation.
