Campaign against EU’s use of AI in migration and border control

Protect-not-surveil

A new campaign #ProtectNotSurveil is calling on EU institutions and EU MS to ensure that the Artificial Intelligence Act protects the rights of all people, including migrants. Rights advocates are concerned that from lie detectors to scanning drones, the EU is building a vast and powerful web of surveillance and tracking at European borders and beyond. These technologies are tested first on people on the move and racialised communities who find it harder to fight back and challenge them.

The campaign is led by AccessNow, European Digital Rights, PICUM, and Refugee Law Lab. It calls on legislators to ban the use of experimental tech against people crossing borders and effectively regulate to ensure AI is used with safety and accountability. See joint statement here For more information about the campaign and how to support it, see here.
