Today the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence begins—a global campaign that calls for an end to violence against women and girls (VAW). First launched in 1991, this initiative has united activists, organisations, and communities worldwide in the fight against one of the most widespread human rights violations.
The campaign runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year, the campaign calls for increased accountability, stronger national strategies, and enhanced support for women’s rights organisations. The focus of the 2024 campaign lies on the 30. Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, a global policy framework and blueprint for realising gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls everywhere.
For the next 16 Days, LSI will use its social platforms to bring awareness to VAW and highlight actions and initiatives from LSI members and CSOs from all over Europe. You can find our contributions on all our social media platforms. Make sure to like and share our posts to create awareness surrounding the topic.
