- Summary
- The goal this report has set itself is to formulate a synthetic but comprehensive
overview and to examine the issue from a human rights perspective on order to
understand the complex human, social and political problems that underlie the
drama of those who are victims of trafficking in human beings especially for the
purpose of sexual exploitation, in particular within the European Union context.
The manual, strives to offer a series of analytical educational tools for teachers
to enable them to reflect on the dramatic and complex nature of trafficking. The
perspective that has been adopted is one that promotes the protection of human
rights and at the same time provides an interdisciplinary key featuring the many
profiles that concur and are embodied in trafficking. Today, human rights are not
solely promoted by the international community and associations promoting
human rights but also by the European Union which stresses the importance of
applying an integrated approach in combating trafficking. The goal of the Manual
is to raise young people’s awareness on such issues and, at the same time, offer
a way out to the thousands of victims that are exploited and enslaved. Please
note that all human rights legislation and even the acts of recommendation
contained in the Manual are for the most part available from the International
Legal Pocket Compilation. It is therefore advised to integrate the reading of the
Manual by also consulting the other part entitled International Legal Pocket
Compilation.
